Linear Welding & Fabrication: The West University Place Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible gate brackets, hinges, weld-on tabs, and fabricated steel repair plates for most Linear slide and swing gate operator systems in West University Place. Typical installed welding and fabrication work on a Linear gate runs $240 to $640, depending on the part, the extent of the weld, and whether we’re reinforcing existing steel or cutting out and replacing a failed section. Most West University Place homeowners discover the problem the same way: the gate starts dragging on one corner, the operator strains against a sagging weld, or a bracket cracks clean through at the bolt hole.

When a Linear gate’s steel fails, it’s rarely the operator’s fault. The motor keeps pushing against a hinge or bracket that has rusted, fatigued, or been hit one too many times by a delivery truck. We weld the steel back to spec, true the alignment, and photograph the finished work before we hand you the written record. Found it, priced it, fixed it – that is the whole job.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear gate operators use two mounting styles that drive most fabrication work in West University Place. The slide gate models – including the SL and SLD series – bolt to a steel drive track and a welded chain bracket at the gate’s leading edge. Swing gate models – the LRA, LSO, and LDO series – attach to a steel gate frame via a bolt-on post bracket and a welded or clamped arm bracket on the gate leaf itself.

The compatibility gotcha with Linear swing arm brackets is bolt pattern. Older Linear swing gate arms used a 1-1/2 inch by 3-1/2 inch bolt pattern on the gate bracket, while newer production shifted to a metric-spaced plate that looks nearly identical but won’t line up on the old holes. We measure the existing bracket on site before any cutting begins.

For most Linear models in West University Place, the OEM bracket is fine but often thinner gauge than what we’d fabricate for a 16-foot gate exposed to Houston humidity. We build replacement brackets and reinforcement plates from 1/4-inch hot-rolled steel, galvanized or primed and painted to match. If your OEM Linear bracket is available and the gate is under 12 feet and lightly used, original equipment makes sense. If the gate is heavy, commercial, or you’ve welded it once already, a fabricated upgrade usually outlasts anything bolted on from the factory.

Vance Gate Repair West University Place is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Linear, but we service their equipment daily and keep common brackets, tabs, and hinge plates for Linear systems stocked on the truck.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags on the latch end. The hinge-side weld has stretched or cracked, dropping the far end of the gate leaf low enough to drag on the driveway or miss the latch post entirely. We see this weekly in West University Place on older steel gates with original welds.
  • The operator arm bracket is loose or wobbling. The bolts may be tight, but the bracket itself is flexing because the steel underneath has fatigued. This transfers that wobble into the operator’s gearbox and shortens motor life.
  • A crack runs from a bolt hole outward. That’s a stress fracture, and it means the bolt was taking load the surrounding steel couldn’t carry. Welding the crack without adding a reinforcement plate will just move the crack next time.
  • The gate scrapes or groans at one specific point in travel. The track bracket on a Linear slide gate may have shifted or broken, causing the drive chain to run out of line. You’ll hear it and see shiny wear on the chain links.
  • Rust blooms at the weld seams. In West University Place’s humidity, painted welds fail from the inside out. By the time you see rust staining, the weld underneath has often lost a third of its thickness. We cut out suspect welds and replace them rather than welding over the corrosion.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Welding and fabrication repair on a Linear gate in West University Place runs between $240 and $640 installed. Straightforward single-bracket repair lands at the low end. Cutting out a failed weld, fabricating a reinforcement plate, and re-welding the joint runs higher. Full hinge replacement on a heavy steel gate with alignment work pushes toward the top of that range.

Every price is written and handed to you before we pick up a tool, under Haven Standard Clause 1. The written quote includes parts, labor, and the exact scope in plain terms. You approve the number before any work starts, and the final invoice matches the quote unless we find something structural and you approve a change order in writing first.

The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a weld we made fails within a year, we return and make it right at no charge. We also leave you with a photo log of every joint opened, welded, ground, and painted, plus the part numbers and material specs for anything we fabricated or installed.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect a Linear gate’s steel without touching a welder. Look for cracked paint around bolt holes, rust at the seams, and any gap between the bracket and the gate frame when the operator cycles. Check that the gate hasn’t dropped on its hinges. That diagnosis costs you nothing and helps us quote accurately over the phone.

What you shouldn’t do is grind out a weld and attempt a structural repair with a homeowner-grade MIG machine. Gate steel under load is unforgiving. A weak weld on a moving gate can fail suddenly, and a moving gate carries enough force to injure someone standing in its path. The same warning applies to any work near the operator arm while the unit has power: the arm moves under motor torque even when the gate’s travel looks finished. We disconnect power and lock out the operator before touching steel.

If the weld is cracked, the bracket is loose, or the gate has dropped, call us at (346) 375-5416. We’ll give you a written price for the repair before you commit to anything.
